PC Of The Future - E-Ball

Posted on 22 July 2008

E-Ball

Aren’t you tired of your PC? By his ugly shape and the way that it looks? Well, this is exactly what designer Apostol Tnokovski was feeling when he decided to create the smallest PC ever made. It’s not going to be like a PDA, it’s going to be a PC with all conventional components (mouse, keyboard, normal screen).

E-Ball

The concept PC is called E-Ball and it’s shaped like a sphere because in Tnokovski’s opinion this is the best shape in nature and it draws everybody’s attention.

E-Ball

E-Ball will feature a dual core processor, 250-500GB HDD, 2GB of RAM, integrated graphic card and sound card, 2 x 50W speakers, HD-DVD recorder, wireless optical mouse and laser keyboard, LAN and WLAN card, modem, Web cam and integrated LCD projector.

E-Ball

Also, the E-Ball PC supports a paper holder and the paper sheet on the holder could act like a screen where you can watch movies or something. This concept PC will measure 160mm in diameter and it was designed for Microsoft Windows OS, sorry about the others. For the moment there is no word on pricing or when it’s going to be available, however, I am sure that everybody would like to see a small spherical PC like this one.

Cool, but quite impractical. Very lovely to look at, but I doubt that the virtual keyboard would pay off in the end. I hear those things suck on a lot of surfaces, and can be difficult to see in bright rooms.

I’m Apostol Tnokovski from Macedonia. I want to thank you about published story about my design concept, and if you want to see more of my work please visit http://poce.deviantart.com/gallery/#Industrial-design

    Thank you again.

I think you meant paper sheet in the illustrations… not paper shit… lmao. Otherwise, very interesting article. I’ve seen the laser keyboard before, but haven’t thought about such a portable desktop. However, it’s round shape would limit its portability… Not many cases designed for it, putting it in a backpack would take up too much space. Round isn’t a very efficient shape. Too much area is wasted because most components and carrying cases are square or rectangular. A video card, for example, would have a hard time fitting in that case, whereas a case of the same volume but a square shape would easily hold it.

Explain to me why it’s a sphere? Wouldn’t a cube be better, since it then wouldn’t need the highly breakable legs displayed, as well as having more internal space for the same package dimensions? Are we trying to save plastic here?

    [Reply]

Apostol Tnokovski reply on July 23, 2008 1:14 am:

The sphere shape makes the design special, if I’ve designed it as cube probably it wouldn’t get in to the best 80 at the Microsoft’s next gen pc design competition. As for the plastics, I wouldn’t agree with you because it should be produced from aluminum as eco-friendly material.

well, it’s safe to assume it won’t be used much in nature as relying on two projectors will give it a battery life of say 20 mins. max. how about *not* designing it for nature, but rather civilisation? maybe make it small enough for your pocket, or a shape that would make it fit a briefcase?

Apostol Tnokovski reply on July 23, 2008 1:33 am:

Can you tell me why all the people witch claim that they have seen an UFO, they always say that it was shaped as sphere or dish….? Because they are afraid of the most perfect form. The cube is pure geometrical form, produced by human. The sphere is more natural form. As for the briefcase, I’ve designed a briefcase too.

    HI EVERYONE,
I know about the spelling mistake but it’s too late to repair it now.
In the competition they considered the fact that there are entries from people around the world witch doesn’t have English as their native language and after all it’s not a spelling bee competition.

  48. Jack says:

A sphere isn’t a very good idea for an object that needs to dissipate heat. Spheres have the highest volume/surface area ratio possible (which is why bubbles are spherical) and so would have the hardest time getting rid of waste heat. Look at Apple’s really tiny Mac Mini: it’s a rectangular prism for a good reason.

  49. Jay says:

Cool. Not everything needs to be a cube. But by HD-DVD did that mean the dead format?

  51. Kyle G says:

Okay c’mon you guys. You all laugh so hard at Paper shit and completely pass over all the other ridiculous points. Like first of all…

“E-Ball will feature a dual core processor, 250-500GB HDD, 2GB of RAM, integrated graphic card and sound card, 2 x 50W speakers, HD-DVD recorder, wireless optical mouse and laser keyboard, LAN and WLAN card, modem, Web cam and integrated LCD projector.”

In a 6 inch sphere. 6 inch diameter sphere. This entire concept is so detached from reality that he’s just assuming people will create specific futuristic parts just to fit in his dung-ball computer.

In fact the smallest motherboard I’ve come across is 120×120mm which would still be 169.7 from corner to corner. But i’m sure this guy with his fine grasp of technology would gladly suggest we simply chop off the corners.

Now with our 120×120mm mobo with chopped off corners, we then add the 2gb of RAM. What’s that? they only make 1gb ram for those mo-bos? Well… we just tape two of them together! yeah that’ll work.

Hmm, a HDD would be nice right about now. let’s get a nice 500gb 2.5″ drive. woo starting to get a little packed in here. what with the chopped up motherboard, the space consuming HDD, and the space taken up by stands/mouse/projectors.

    Now all we need are:
    -Speakers
    -A deprecated DVD drive
    -A webcam
    -A LAN/WLAN Card

And then we’re done. Sure is a good thing this computer doesn’t need a power supply eh?

Anyways, feasibly with over a thousand dollars you could produce this ridiculously horrible product whose form serves no purpose besides ‘looking neato burrito’… or you could buy a laptop.
