Construction has already begun on this 75Mw solar thermal plant and is expected to finish in 2010. Although there are bigger projects out there, the new Martin Next Generation Solar Energy Center near Indiantown, Florida, promises to be first in at least a few areas. Being the largest solar thermal plant outside California is one achievement, another is being the first hybrid solar power facility in the world to be connected to an existing combined-cycle natural gas power plant.

180,000 parabolic mirrors located on an area of 500 acres just north of Palm Reach County will create enough electricity to have the Florida Power and Light plant power an estimated 11,000 homes. The company also has two other solar projects currently in development, one at the Kennedy Space Center and the other one in Desoto County, and the combined capacity of all three plants that are now in the works will be 110 megawatts.
