As you probably know by now, Intel’s future chip architecture will be called “Core i7″ and not Nehalem as previously thought (Nehalem was just the codename). Yesterday, at the Intel Developers Forum conference, Intel released some more information about the chips, but we will present you only the important stuff.
It seems like the Core i7 chips will be based on the new QuickPath Interconnect and this technique that combines the chips, processors and memory controllers all together, will increased the memory read-write speeds by three times than any other previous microarchitectures.
Intel Core i7 will include a so-called turbo mode that “shifts the processor into a higher gear” without overheating. The Intel Nehalem architecture for servers will be available as of 2009 and after that, Intel will begin to sell desktop chips (”Havendale” and “Lynnfield”) and mobile chips (”Auburndale” and “Clarksfield”).
