Samsung started the mass production of the 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch MLC-based solid state drives. The SSDs will be available in two versions: a 64GB and a 128GB. The Samsung SSD has a write speed of 70MB/s and a read speed of 90MB/s while its power consumption is approximately 0.2-watts in standby mode and 0.5-watts in active mode.
Samsung says that its new 128GB SSD will last about 20 times longer than the generally accepted 4-5 year life span of a notebook PC hard drive. It is also expected that this SSDs will also be cheap. Now all we can do is to wait until we can test them.
