Ferris Wheel Is Now Powered By 160,000 LED Lights

Posted on 09 June 2008

Santa Monica’s main attraction point, the Ferris Wheel, has now received a complimentary update consisting of 160,000 attached LEDs. The upgrade has pulled $1.5 million from the city’s fundings. The 90-foot ride was built in 1996 by Chance Morgan Rides and was the world’s first ferris wheel to use solar power.

Thanks to the energy it accumulates from the sunlight over the day time, the bright lights that create a superb colored view use conventional energy sources very little, sparing the local council from another expenses. As the electricity problem is solved, the amusement park can keep most of the funds from tickets, making it a very profitable business.
