Apple not only are trying to improve their services, but they are also trying to make them safer. iPhone Atlas reports that Apple has a system that allows them to track and disable malicious applications on your iPhone. According to Jonathan Zdziarski, iPhone hacker and author of iPhone Forensics, Apple can deactivate the unauthorized apps thanks to the new 2.x firmware that features an URL which consists of a list with the malicious applications.
“This suggests that the iPhone calls home once in a while to find out what applications it should turn off. At the moment, no apps have been blacklisted, but by all appearances, this has been added to disable applications that the user has already downloaded and paid for, if Apple so chooses to shut them down. I discovered this doing a forensic examination of an iPhone 3G. It appears to be tucked away in a configuration file deep inside CoreLocation,” said Jonathan.
This doesn’t just remove the unauthorized apps from the App Store, it removes them from every iPhone where those were installed. I have to remind you that Apple removed NetShare, BoxOffice and I Am Rich from the App Store without giving any explanation.
Here is the remote URL that allegedly includes the malicious applications:
