These DIY Kamala Harris yard signs are better than the real thing

Amazon sellers have already created bootleg signs in droves. Here’s how to make your own instead.

It’s been just over 24 hours since President Biden dropped his reelection bid and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the new Democratic candidate—which has meant a sleepless night for White House aides, reporters, and, apparently, Amazon sellers.

In a miraculously (and, some might say, suspiciously) quick turnaround, Amazon has been flooded with dozens of Harris-related merch designs. The yard sign selection already ranges from classic red-white-and-blue designs to an image of Harris’ face superimposed over a heavily edited American flag. While the options are plentiful, none of them exactly scream “legit.”

If you’re hoping to avoid getting scammed, several netizens have been quick to whip up simple DIY alternatives for a Harris 2024 yard sign. Here are a few of the designs we’ve seen so far:

The crop-and-go

The simplest solution we’ve found is to grab an existing Biden-Harris sign (iterations from 2020 or 2024 will do), and simply chop off the upper half. It’s simple, subtle, and it gets the job done in the absence of any non-bootleg options.

They say minimalism is all the rage in the logo world today, and these slim-profile Harris signs become an immediate sign of the times.

The duct-tape artist

If you’re up for more of a craft project, a bit of duct tape can also quickly transform an old Biden-Harris sign. How you go about this is up to your own artist’s interpretation: For the quickest fix, simply cover up Biden’s name to leave Harris’ underneath—or, to take it a step further, you can add your own messaging on the tape. This designer, for example, added “Vice President TBD” to their sign.

The eBay searcher

Some early Harris supporters are likely feeling vindicated for having saved their yard signs from Harris’ 2020 presidential campaign, when she operated under the slogan “Kamala Harris for the People.”

“Sitting on my porch drinking my coffee and I’ve already had two neighborhood walkers ask where I got my Kamala sign & where to get one,” one X (formerly Twitter) user wrote. “They both laughed when I said it’s from 2020. What a great way to start the morning! I can’t wait to order a new one.”

It might be possible to thrift a flag or a sign from 2020, though the selection on eBay is currently pretty sparse.

The true DIYer

When all else fails, consider simply creating your own sign from scratch. Given the surge of Kamala-related memes recently appearing on X and TikTok, there are plenty of directions a homemade sign could take, from a coconut theme to a Charli XCX brat-ified color palette.
