A Peek within MoMA’s Hotly expected Björk Retrospective

Björk opens this week at MoMA and covers two decades of the shapeshifting artist’s career in song, art, and design.

An army of Björk takes over the Museum of up to date art on Sunday. The Icelandic pop star/alien fairy goddess’s hotly anticipated retrospective coincides with the release of her ninth studio album, “Vulnicura,”* and covers two decades of her shapeshifting career in song, artwork, design, and model.

organized via MoMA chief curator Klaus Biesenbach, the show off includes a new 10-minute video for “Black Lake,” a heartbreaking track off “Vulnicura” about the loss of life of her longtime relationship with artist Matthew Barney. “My defend is long gone,” sings a foliage-clad Björk in a cave, within the video’s trailer.

Key pieces of her otherworldly dresser are additionally on show: the infamous swan dress she wore to the 2001 Oscars and the Tyvek gown she wore on the cover of her 1995 album “submit.” guests can delve into Björk’s non-public recollections: her diaries, starting from age 9, are on view, some collaged with photography from the artists Willem de Kooning and Georg Baselitz. In a gallery environment, the musical contraptions designed namely for 2011’s “Biophilia” double as sculptures: there’s a Tesla coil, Gravity Harps, a gameleste (a hybrid gamelan and celesta), and a pipe organ. only 100 visitors will likely be let into the show off at once, so participants of the Björk cult must get in line.
