AMD Ryzen Threadripper Series Finally Goes Official; Price Starts from $549 for 8-Core 1900X

Threadripper is seen as an answer to the Intel Core i9 series, perhaps vice versa. Whatever the situation maybe, AMD has finally unveiled the Rzyen Threadripper processors along with all their specifications and most importantly, the price. For now, the 1900X, 1920X, and the 1950X have only been announced, against what was rumoured earlier.

After a whole lot of rumours and leaks about the Threadripper processors, we can now, at last, inform you about the official specifications. Ever since the Ryzen processors were announced earlier this year, the strategy of AMD was clear. AMD is planning to take on Intel by providing more number of cores at a lower price, thereby giving you a better price to performance ratio. The same strategy can also be seen in these Threadripper processors.

The Pricing

Let’s talk about the thing you’re eagerly waiting for – the pricing. Starting from the 8-core Threadripper 1900X, it will be priced at $549. The 12-core Threadripper 1920X will be available for $799, while the top-end Threadripper 1950X will go on sale for $999. The price of the 1950X and the 1920X had leaked earlier and they were exactly what the company has announced. However, the pricing of the 1900X wasn’t known before.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X

Starting with the highest end of the three, the 1950X, that has been talked about much even before its launch, is a flagship chip in the Threadripper X399 family. In line with the leaks had revealed, the Threadripper 1950X sports 16 cores along with 32 threads and will have a base clock speed of 3.4 GHz and 4.0 GHz boost. A total of 40MB cache is available, of which, 32MB is L3 cache. AMD has given a staggering number of 64 PCIe lanes and 60 lanes of these will be available for discrete graphics and storage devices.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1920X

You can say it the mid-range processor in the Threadripper family as it comes with 12 cores and 24 threads. The base clock of this processor is 3.5 GHz while a boost speed of 4.0 GHz. Compared to the 1950X’s 40MB cache, the 1920X comes with 38MB of total cache with 32MB of L3 variety and 6MB of L2 cache. This processor too comes with 64 PCIe lanes like the higher-end one.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1900X

The cheapest of them all is the 8-core Threadripper 1900X that will be available for $549 and is $50 cheaper than its Intel counterpart core i7-7820X, which is also an 8-core processor. The processor has the highest base clock speed of 3.8 GHz but boost speed of 4.0 GHz. The 64 PCIe lanes come standard on all the Threadripper processors, so will be their TDP of 180W. The 1900X comes with a cache memory of 20MB of which 16MB is L3.

If you compare this to the highest end Ryzen 1800X processor, the 1900X will have an edge over the 1800X with higher numbers of PCIe lanes, quad-channel DDR4 memory support, along with more I/O.

The Packaging

Now that you know all the details of the processors, you must know that the processors themselves aren’t the most exciting thing, but their packaging is. It is an all new beautifully designed box made out of premium material. The large box will have a see-through panel on one side with Ryzen and Threadripper logo on it. While there will be a dial on the other side that says “Unlock The Power”, indicating the way to open the box.

Availability

The two higher end processors in the series, 1950X and 1920X, will go on sale starting August 10 and are already up for pre-orders. While the Ryzen Threadripper 1900X will hit the shelves on August 31.
