Arizona Cardinals Jonathan Dwyer Arrested For Domestic Violence

Jonathan Dwyer, running back for the Arizona Cardinals, was arrested this afternoon on domestic violence charges. Phoenix Police confirmed his arrest, after an incident with his 27-year-old wife, and 18-month-old son.

Dwyer has been booked on charges that include aggravated assault causing a broken nose, aggravated assault involving a minor, and two counts of criminal damage. He’s also being charged with preventing his wife from calling 911 in a case of emergency.

Here’s the mugshot:

Police say the charges are from two different incidents, which apparently happened at his house back in July. He was questioned when a report was made on September 11. He admitted to the incidents, yet denied any sort of physical assaults.

The Arizona Cardinals are currently investigating the charges, and deactivated Dwyer immediately after hearing the news this evening.

The full statement from the team reads:

“We became aware of these allegations this afternoon when notified by Phoenix police and are cooperating fully.

“Given the serious nature of the allegations we have taken the immediate step to deactivate Jonathan from all team activities.

“We will continue to closely monitor this as it develops and evaluate additional information as it becomes available.”

This just adds to the off field issues that have been occurring in the NFL. The football player’s arrest comes just after  the video of Baltimore Ravens player Ray Rice knocking his wife unconscious in an elevator, and Adrian Peterson getting arrested for child abuse.

Jonathan Dwyer’s arrest means the NFL will be looked at more critically than ever. This is the worst start in the history of the sport.
