AMD’s new Ryzen CPUs have remained the talk of the town ever since their general availability began earlier this month. The new chips that deliver a superior performance-per-dollar value compared to their Intel counterparts are basically selling like hot cupcakes. So much so that AMD’s Add-In-Board (AIB) could not keep up with the soaring demand for Ryzen in several regions.
Nonetheless, now it looks like things are turning for the better on the supply side of things. More interestingly, you might even get an attractive discount on certain Ryzen chips at select retailers. Case in point — a good $30 discount on the Ryzen 7 1700X offered by Micro Center.
Not just that, there’s more to this deal. The 1700X also qualifies for a combo discount that allows you to add a compatible motherboard to the purchase and have as much as $50 slashed off the board’s current price. Better still, most Micro Center outlets even have X370 boards in stock at the time of this writing.
(Note: It seems things are not nearly as bright for Dallas and Houston when it comes to the X370. Although, anyone living in these regions can still opt for B350 boards.)
Unfortunately, though, the offer is applicable to only in-store purchases. Meaning if you do not currently have a Micro Center outlet in your region, you might not be able to take advantage of the deal.
The Ryzen 7 1700X comes equipped with a 3.4 GHz clock speed, eight cores, and 95W TDP. The benchmarks of the chip so far have painted the 1700X in good light among enthusiast users. Of course, AMD’s processors are not as fast as the Intel CPUs when it comes to gaming, but overall, they do give you a comparable (better even!) performance on multiple fronts for a much less price.
Before we wrap up, allow us to just point out that if you do pick a 1700X anytime soon, consider adding a CPU cooler to the cart too. That’s because, in the boxed form, the Ryzen 7 1700X does not come with a stock cooler (much akin to Intel’s enthusiast-class chips).
