Clash Royale Update: Here’s How In-Game Tournaments Will Work

As we noted earlier this week, Clash Royale will be getting in-game tournament support, so you can organise tourneys with your friends (and strangers!). Supercell has now revealed just how the tournaments will work.  Tournaments will unlock at close to the Tournament Rules level, and all tournaments will be played according to Tournament Rules. Read on to find out more.

Location is also a key element of the tournament feature, as Supercell envisions the tournaments to be played locally. Examples given in their blog post include playing ad-hoc tournaments at the pub, or work (because obviously, what else are you going to do at work other than play Clash Royale tournaments?). Every tournament will have a location based on where it’s created.

Rather than opt for a traditional bracket and elimination system, Supercell chose to go with closed matchmaking instead. This is because playtests showed it impractical to expect players to be online at the specific times of their matches. According to Supercell, “this approach felt like the most flexible and best fit for all players to participate at their own pace.” The company has also confirmed that you will not need to leave your clan to play in a tournament.

More information will be doled out tomorrow, and we will report on it as always. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
