Drones Are delivering Contraband To Prisons
Smugglers are airlifting drugs into prison yards using drones. One such incident caused a combat to break out in an Ohio prison final week.

A drone transported virtually 1/2 a pound of gear into an Ohio prison on July 29, sparking a combat among inmates. Unknown events coordinated the drop and flew the drone into a jail yard on the Mansfield Correctional Institute.
JoEllen Smith, a spokesperson for the Ohio department of Rehabilitation and Correction, advised the Mansfield news Journal that the drone dropped a bundle containing greater than 5 oz. of tobacco, over 2 ounces of marijuana, and nearly 1 / 4 of an ounce of heroin. The contraband seemingly instigated a combat between inmates who had been out within the jail yard at the time.
9 inmates who exchanged blows had been positioned in solitary confinement because of this.
As drones become extra ubiquitous, prisons are suffering from the query of how to give protection to against contraband deliveries from the skies. Drones are new territory for government agencies and corporations; for the reason that it’s difficult to foretell how unmanned aircrafts could also be used sooner or later, delineating complete no-fly zones is no straightforward feat.
In 2014, the Lee Correctional institution in South Carolina suggested that a drone carrying marijuana, tobacco, and cell phones crashed simply out of doors its walls; up to now two years, there have been three different drone-smuggling incidents across the U.S., and more in a foreign country.
