Ex-NFL Player Zurlon Tipton Dies After Accidentally Shooting Himself

New Orleans Saints v Indianapolis Colts

Former Indianapolis Colts running back Zurlon Tipton died on Tuesday after his gun accidentally discharged and fatally shot him outside a car dealership in Detroit.

The 26-year-old had brought his Jeep to be serviced that morning. As he reached into his duffel bag, his .45-caliber semi-automatic went off, firing a round into his stomach according to ESPN.

Tipton joined the Colts as an undrafted free agent yet beat the odds securing a spot on the active roster. Released by the team in December, he played in 16 games over two seasons gaining 38 yards on 15 carries.

“Zurlon was a dude you rooted for — an undrafted, talented, hardworking player who always seemed to have a smile on his face. His personality was contagious,” Colts teammate Matt Overton said according to ESPN.
