Interns at some of the top tech companies in the United States make more in one month than many annually employed U.S. workers, according to recent data.
Facebook, Microsoft, Salesforce, Amazon, Apple, Yelp, Yahoo, VMware, Google NVIDA, Intuit, Juniper Networks, Workday, BlackRock, and Adobe are among the top payers.
One-month salaries for 12-week internships at these companies can range from $4,500 to about $8,000 — which equates to between $54,00 and $96,000 annually. Today, the median annual salary for a full-time U.S. worker is $51,350, according to the job Web site Glassdoor’s Local Pay Reports.
The median base pay for marketing managers in the U.S. is $68,175 annually, as of April 2017 — up 1.7% from a year ago. Data scientists make about $94,944 annually, data analysts about $59,084, and Web designers about $50,782. The median base pay for the marketing and advertising industry is $48,571 annually.
This year Facebook interns — who are the top-earning 2017 summer interns in the U.S. — will make an average of $8,000 monthly, according to Glassdoor.
But these are no ordinary jobs — they support high-level engineering and marketing projects.
At Facebook, these jobs include a research intern, data engineering business intelligence intern, and core data science PhD intern. The company is also looking for a research intern who has experience in semiconductor material characterization to work with Oculus in Cork, Ireland.
Microsoft, at No. 2, pays about $7,100 monthly for summer interns and is looking for students who are majoring in computer science, electrical engineering and computer engineering. Salesforce, Amazon, Apple, and Yelp each pay interns about $6,400 monthly. Pay for Yahoo and VMware drops to $6,080 monthly, with Google at $6,000; NVIDIA, $5,770; and Intuit, Juniper, Workday, and BlackRock each paying $5,440 monthly.
In addition to the tech companies, there are a few other high-paying jobs at companies such as ExxonMobile, which pays interns about $6,507 monthly — adding up to $78,084. Bloomberg L.P.’s monthly internship pay of $6,400 equals about $76,800 per year.
