Google Acquires Superpod For Q and A Expertise | DeviceDaily.com

Google has acquired the startup Superpod, an app that allows people to post questions and receive answers from experts within an hour.

A source told Axios that Google paid less than $60 million to acquire the company’s assets and hire the founders.

Superpod lets users ask questions and receive answers from experts, which could support future services in Google Assistant. It’s not the first app to offer this type of action. Axios reminds us that Twitter co-founder Biz Stone’s startup Jelly, which Pinterest acquired in 2017, had a similar concept.

Former Google employees Sophia Yang and William Li founded Superpod in 2016, and raised an undisclosed amount of seed funding from Precursor Ventures, Charlie Cheever, Social Capital, and the House Fund, per AngelList.

Lang and Li apparently knew the future of their company at the time they closed its doors in 2018. In a blog post on the company’s website, the two wrote: “we can’t share any details at this time, but we’re trekking onward toward the same North Star and are very excited about the future.”

As search engines become more intelligent with personalized content, consumers are taking new paths to reach brands. Some never even land on the brand’s website or Facebook page.

Consumers looking for answers now reach for the phone, locate driving directions, talk with them through a chatbot, or take other actions provided by artificial intelligence like Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Apple Siri.
