Some believe the hip-hop art form continues to have a global influence not only on dance and music, but on culture, entertainment and even technology.

Google Pixel this past weekend hosted an interactive exhibit for fans to experience the past, present and future of hip-hop through the lens of Pixel technology.

The event was held at the Governors Ball Music Festival. Google partnered with Live Nation and Mass Appeal to bring 50 years of hip-hop to life for fans by telling its story across live events, original content, artist partnerships, and more.

This Google Pixel exhibit at the Governors Ball is one way the company shines a spotlight on hip-hop this year to celebrate its 50th anniversary, paying tribute to its rich history by creating experiences through technology and features. The focus is on allowing consumers to experience hip-hop’s influence on music and culture.

Google Pixel has hosted a version of this experience for fans at other music festival, too, including Rolling Loud California, Dreamville Festival, Coachella and Roots Picnic. A version of this comes to Rolling Loud Miami in July, and at Austin City Limits Music Festival in October.

The exhibit focuses on the past, the present and the future of hip-hop through the lens of Pixel technology where fans can discover the different eras of hip-hop’s past, learning more about the genre’s influence on dance culture and technology.

In the present, fans can appear on the cover of classic hip-hop albums, with a photographer on hand to take their picture using Pixel’s Real Tone technology. Images are used to create a digital and in-person gallery wall of album covers that rotate between images to celebrate fans’ different skin tones.

Recognize the future of hip-hop’s global influence and its rising artists around the world, fans can use Live Translate to translate lyrics and learn more about these international hip-hop stars.
