President Trump today announced at the White House press conference that the government is working with Google to build an online screening website for COVID-19, also known as coronavirus.

The site is actually being developed by Google parent Alphabet Inc.’s Verily Life Sciences, which issued a statement saying: “We are developing a tool to help triage individuals for Covid-19 testing. Verily is in the early stages of development, and planning to roll testing out in the Bay Area, with the hope of expanding more broadly over time.”

The triage site is believed to be part of Verily’s Project Baseline initiative, a web-based platform enabling people to contribute health data and participate in clinical research, including mapping the spread of disease.

The White House said the project would enable users to enter their symptoms to see if they need testing and that it would provide information on the locations of drive-through testing site if they meet certain criteria. Trump said Google has 1,700 engineers that can work on this project.

Debbie Birx, the White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator, said users will log in to the website to fill out a screening and risk factor questionnaire, and will then be directed to a facility.

The Google and White House partnership is part of a larger effort that pulls in companies such as Walmart, Target, CVS, and Walgreens to support recovery efforts.
