How To Get Android N’s Best New Features on Any Device Running Android Lollipop

It has already been six months since the Android 6.0 Marshmallow was released, but according to Google, only 2.3% of Android devices are currently running on this Android Platform. Marshmallow is indeed reaching out to the devices at snail’s pace and it is rather concerning considering the fact that Google has already released the Android N developer preview build for some devices during the previous month.

Google is planning to release the final build of the Android N during this summer. However, if the Marshmallow continues to creep up at this pace, then we can only imagine how much time will take for Android N to become the most popular Android OS. This should be a matter of concern for Google as the Android N is right at the corner while its predecessor is yet to reach out to a good amount of smartphones.

However, you don’t need to wait for this much and jump the queue. Yes, you heard us right, you can start using Android N’s best new features right now on your smartphone. However, we must warn you that this will involve rooting your device and if the term doesn’t ring a bell to you, then we would advise you to stay away from this one.

Android N

Android 5.0 Lollipop and Android 5.1 Lollipop operating systems are still the most popularly used Android OS out there. A new project called N-ify has come up which can bring the best features of the latest Android N to all devices running Android 5.0 or later.

Android N comes with a lot of new and exciting features to talk about. First of all, the much-awaited multi-tasking feature Split-screen mode will be added to Android. This feature has been seen in LG and Samsung custom UI, but now it’s coming to stock Android and will let you use two windows on your device. Then there’s the new Direct reply feature that will let you reply to messages right from the notification panel without opening the app. Then the quick settings panel will be redesigned and similar notifications will be bundled together. Doze mode will be improved along with the overall performance of the OS.

Android N developer preview is currently available to only a handful of devices, but this new project N-ify will allow all devices running Android 5.0 or later to get the new look and features of the Android N. This project is still in its initial stage and hence only a few Android N features are supported and important features like the Doze, Night Mode, new notifications section, etc. are being developed.

The N-ify is packaged as an Xposed module, thus requiring you to install the Xposed framework on your device. It will also need you to root your device. You can check out this post on the blog of XDA developers for more details.
