Idris Elba Will Not Appear Despite Double Nominations At 2016 Golden Globes

Well, scratch off one of the major nominees from attending. Idris Elba will not be making an appearance at the Golden Globes this year.

Elba, who’s nominated for two Golden Globes – one for Best Actor in a TV Movie or Limited Series for his role in Luther, and one for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for Beasts of No Nation – pulled his back and will be missing the night’s festivities.

“On doctor’s orders [he] can not get on a plane to attend the Golden Globes,” his representative told ET.

Elba has been nominated to the Golden Globe, not one but two times once again, this year for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Series, Limited Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television, for Luther, as well as for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in Netflix’s Beasts of No Nation, which proves one more time why he is one of the best actors today. “Thank you to the HFPA, who have always been so amazingly supportive of me throughout my career. I’m so excited, in particular, to be recognized for both Luther and Beasts of No Nation. For Luther, what better way to celebrate the end of a great run than with this stellar acknowledgement,” he said when got the news about the nominations.
