Is 5G Mode in Samsung Galaxy S9 Possible?
Samsung Galaxy S9 is one of the
most anticipated for smartphones of 2018. The hype is justified as Samsung has promised to include some next-gen features on this device to make it the most powerful smartphone ever created by the Korean technology titan. It will feature top-notch features found in the Note 8 such as the dual-lens rear camera. There are expectations that Samsung would return the fingerprint scanner to the front of the phone with its sensor embedded under the screen.
An incredible processor
The most talked about feature of the Samsung Galaxy S9 is the Snapdragon 845 processor. It promises 25% more performance than the current Snapdragon 835. Even more, rumors have it that only the Galaxy S9 will feature this incredible chip for the first half of the year. This comes as a result of an alleged exclusivity deal that Samsung had struck with Qualcomm.
A Key feature missing
Though the date of releasing the Galaxy S9 is currently unknown, Samsung confirmed that one key and probably more exciting technology than the
Snapdragon 845 would be missing.Samsung has worked tirelessly at improving data download speeds. Its latest next-generation phones deliver among the best internet connection speeds on the market. It has sought to transform the broadband and mobile usage by a launching a 5G capable smartphone.
This cutting-edge technology promises an amazing data rate of 20GBps. As such, downloading AAA games and 4K HDR movies would only take seconds.
Samsung has been testing the possibility and viability of 5G technology with UK and US network providers for a better part of the year. So far, it has achieved a milestone of 1GB per second. Though this is only 5% of the expected ability, it is 600 times faster than the current average speed in the UK.
5G technology owes its lightning speed to its large bandwidth allowance. As a result, more data can be sent to several devices at once.
In spite of Samsung’s tremendous achievements thus far, it pointed out that 5G will be available in stocks not earlier than 2019. As a result, the Galaxy S9 will not be able to connect to a 5G network at the time of release.
Industry’s focus
Hastening the availability of 5G network is the primary focus of the communication industry. This is according to the Vice President of Next Generations Communications Business Team IT and Mobile Communications, Wonil Roh. Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, he explained that the entire industry is keen on this venture.
Rays of hope
According to Wonil Roh, the wait for the 5G might be over soon. He said that the 5G standard is expected to be ready by mid-2018. Manufacturers, however, will take about 18 months to produce 5G-ready devices. If his prediction comes to pass, then we can expect any new devices developed by Samsung later than mid-2019 to be 5G enabled.
But all is not lost
Even without the 5G technology, current Samsung devices have shown significant technological maturity against most the competition. The Note 8 for example, already promises better download speeds.
A speed test conducted by YouTube creator BooreAtWork, pitting the Galaxy Note 8 against iPhone X showed the difference that having the latest cellular technology can make. The Note 8 was twice faster than the iPhone X consistently.
Effect on the stock market
The prospect of having the 5G technology on the Galaxy S9 had boosted the share price of Samsung in the stock markets. Now that this is not going to happen in the foreseeable future, it is not the best time to invest in these stocks if one was interested in a boom. However, one has to clearly understand whether the feature to be incorporated will, in any way, affect the market response.
However, Samsung has a stable portfolio in
CMC Markets and other stock trade platforms. This hitch is seemingly not going to have a significant impact on its share price. So one can invest in for small gains and wait till 2019 for the big harvest
