Is Your LinkedIn Profile Vulnerable To Hackers? Secure Your LinkedIn Profile Now: Here’s how!
May 20, 2016
You may know that in 2012, LinkedIn was hacked and over 117 million accounts were compromised.
While securing your profile may not seem important, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
#1) Download all your data
STEP 1: Mouse over your image in the top right hand side and scroll down to the “Privacy & Settings” link.
STEP 2: Scroll down and click on “Getting an archive of your data”
(You probably will have to re-enter your password)
STEP 3: Click on “Request archive”
You’ll receive an email with a link to download your data. (Once again you may need to re-enter your password)
LinkedIn will send you two instalments of your data. The first archive includes your messages, connections and imported contacts. The second archive will include your activity and account history.
The file will be in a spreadsheet format, and won’t be very user-friendly. But, if LinkedIn ever changes so that you cannot access your data anymore, you’ll be the smart one who has it all backed up!

#2) Change Your Password
I know this is the most frustrating part. Most of us keep the same password so we can remember it. Unfortunately to keep our log in information safe, we do need to update this information fairly regularly.
STEP 1: Mouse over your image in the top right hand side and scroll down to the “Privacy & Settings” link.
STEP 2: Scroll down to “Change Password”
Once you’ve added your old password and changed to your new password, you’ll also want to log out of all your active sessions.
Like most people, I procrastinate and put these kinds of “to-dos” on hold when life and work become busy. It’s not until you’ve experienced a data breach or if you’ve lost all your data to make you very mindful of how important it is to back up your data and protect your password.
Hop to it!
