List of Samsung Galaxy Smartphones Planned for Android Nougat Update
Samsung started shipping the official Android Nougat update about a week ago for its current flagship devices the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge. While the company stated last year that both the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge will get Nougat during Q1 2017, the Korean giant was pretty quiet about its other smartphone models.
A week after Nougat update launched for the Galaxy S7/S7 Edge combo, Samsung finally revealed a list containing other models eligible for the Nougat update. The list includes Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S7 Active, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge and S6 edge Plus, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy Tab A with S Pen, Galaxy Tab S2 (LTE unlock), Galaxy A3, and Galaxy A8.
Although the list includes lots of models, it is strange why Samsung decided to skip some popular models such as Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy A5, Galaxy A7, or the recent Galaxy C lineup. It is possible that the company will add those models at a later date.
Regarding release dates of updates, Samsung didn’t share exact dates but it promised that all listed models will receive the Nougat update during the first half of 2017. It is expected for the Galaxy S7 Active be the first one to receive the update since the model was already spotted running Android 7.0 on Geekbench.
After the Galaxy S7 Active, the Galaxy S6/S6 Edge combo should follow. Samsung already stated that the company is working on the Nougat Android firmware for the Galaxy S6 back in November 2016.
