Google, and search czar Amit Singhal particularly, have long been looking to improve experiences that mimic the functioning and capabilities of the “megastar Trek computer.” in a single feel, Google initiatives akin to voice search, predictive search, data Graph, desktop learning and AI are all working toward the ultimate goal: making a digital assistant that can resolution any question.

Time reports on Google’s prototyping of a wearable instrument modeled on the celebrity Trek Communicator (the subsequent technology uniform version, not the original sequence’ Motorola flip phone model). Above is a picture of Singhal sporting the lapel-pin-sized tool.

As Time describes it, and as the picture indicates, it’s a circular piece of hardware that is Bluetooth-enabled and contains a mic. It’s activated through tapping on it. And, just like the Android watch, it’s additionally connected to a smartphone.

Time says the theory behind the Google Communicator, past seeing if it usually is constructed, was to “take a look at out how users might interact with voice search in new ways.” As with the Android watch, the hope was that it could make Google obtainable while not having to take out your telephone. The better notion is ready finding ways to combine Google search and related capabilities deeply into our lives in new and extra seamless methods.

It doesn’t seem this tool will move a lot past the prototype stage. on the other hand, its building illustrates how Google is thinking about and checking out new type elements as a way to look forward to and invent the future of search.
