The more semiconductors built and shipped to companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung and other hardware manufacturers, the more devices consumers will have available to connect to the Internet and see or hear advertisements.

So it will be important for marketers to know that the semiconductor market will grow from $409 billion in 2017 to $437 billion in 2018, according to the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) forecast.

The estimates reflect growth in all major categories — the largest spike so far at about 60%, followed by sensors at 15.9%.

WSTS projects double-digit year-to-year increases across all regions this year. In the Americas, growth should hit 31.9%; Asia-Pacific, 18.9%; Europe, 16.3%; and Japan, 12.6%.

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) also announced that worldwide sales of semiconductors reached $37.1 billion for the month of October 2017, up 21.9% a year ago. October marked the global industry’s largest monthly sales total ever.
