Nielsen To Expand Streaming Programming Metrics
Deepening its efforts for a streaming platform measurement, Nielsen is expanding its weekly top 10 lists into three categories: originals, movies and acquired content.
For the week of December 28 through January 3, Nielsen says the top three streaming TV shows/movies were: TV series’ “Bridgerton,” “Cobra Kai” on Netflix and the original movie “Soul” on Disney+.
“Bridgerton” pulled in 2.7 million minutes viewed (eight episodes), with “Cobra Kai” at 2.6 billion (30 episodes); and “Soul” at 1.3 billion (one episode). All three combined to rake in 6.5 billion viewing minutes.
Netflix commanded the bulk of the top 10 — as it has for some time.
The highest-acquired program was Netflix’s “The Office,” with 961 million minutes, followed by Netflix’s “Grey’s Anatomy’s” at 835 million minutes; and Netflix’s “Schitt’s Creek” at 816 million minutes.
Five of the top 10 shows were acquired programming, which also included “New Girl” (Netflix), at 728 million minutes and “Criminal Minds” (Netflix) at 711 million minutes.
