Nintendo Switch Gives Increased Performance When Docked – That Could Explain How Dark Souls 3 Was Running Smoothly

Laura Kate Dale has been blacklisted for her leaks, so she is now going to really let lose some rumors. First off she says the dock of the Nintendo Switch increases performance. Not by internal hardware like processors, but tells the Nintendo Switch hardware to run at full speed for 1080p. So, the Switch, as a handheld, should be 720p and running at lower speed. Then docked, it runs full power at 108op. Makes sense.

Nintendo Switch runs at a higher clock speed when docked

Laura Kate Dale tweeted that the dock does indeed connect to the console via USB-C. And the system’s components run at a higher clock speed when docked. This allows the system to output at higher resolutions than when it is in portable mode. This is actually quite reasonable, seeing as some laptops do the same thing when they are plugged in.

“Plugging the system in the dock will also activate a small additional fan to help with cooling when run at that higher clock speed”, she said. This could explain how games like Dark Souls 3 and Skyrim Special Edition could run on the Nintendo Switch.

WWCFTech ran across preorder listings from EB Games in Australia that purported to highlight key hardware features of the upcoming Nintendo Switch. The third-party accessory pack from them included not just a large padded case, but a USB-A to USB-C cable. Which inherently makes sense given the need for a fast charge time on a console intended for mobile use.

The braided cables are a nice touch and minimize the potential for damage. The earplugs, eh, not so much. Rumor mill for the Switch has, of course, been running at full speed since its release. It’s expected to come out next March, so we’re sure we will see plenty of other peripherals leak between now and then. Is there an accessory you would like to see for the switch? Let us know in the comments.
