CTOs topped the list of the highest-paid digital marketing professionals in 2016, between $140,000 and $241,000 — even higher than CMOs at between $140,000 and $238,000 or VPs of ecommerce that top out between $138,000 and $226,000, according to a report released Thursday.

The study from Mondo, a digital marketing and IT resourcing provider, notes that the job title of proofreader saw the biggest spike in salary in 2016 compared with the prior year. Proofreaders’ salaries jumped 10% to between $41,000 and $65,000.

Digital content strategists jumped 9% to between $76,000 and $121,000 — similar to the positions of director of social media, to between $46,000 and $117,000; director of ecommerce at $134,000 to $184,000; and the VP of ecommerce (noted above).

The most in-demand jobs in digital marketing are Web developer, copywriter, UX/UI designer, and Web analytics. The most in-demand jobs in technology are business analysts, project managers, software engineers, and IT support.

For digital marketing specialization areas, the positions with the highest salaries in 2016 are digital marketing director at up to $189,000, followed by ecommerce director at up to $184,000; and UI/UX director at up to $159,000.

Content creation and social media director for organic and paid search range between $103,000 and $158,000. Managers for SEO and SEM range from $85,000 to $126,000, and digital content strategists range from $76,000 to $121,000.

Email marketers can earn a little more than those in search, topping out at $152,000. Big Data analysts top out at $134,000; and digital marketing communication managers top out at $123,000.

The creative types range from $101,000 to $178,000 for creative directors, to between $73,000 and $126,000 for Interactive designers. Art directors range between $73,000 and $126,000.

This salary data is based on recent survey data and Mondo’s thousands of digital marketing placements in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Denver, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, and Atlanta.
