German smart home supplier Tado announced a new smart thermostat and smart radiator thermostat at IFA 2016 in Berlin this week.

The radiator thermostat provides users with multi-room control, letting you turn on the radiator in one room while keeping others cool. Users can purchase radiator thermostats for each room.

Room temperature can be controlled through voice commands now, thanks to Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit support. Tado now also supports IFTTT, which lets you connect Philips Hue lights and other smart home devices together.

Tado tracks smartphone location to recognize if the homeowner is in the house and adjusts the temperature accordingly. With IFTTT support, entering your home may set off a chain reaction, if you connect multiple IFTTT devices that activate upon entering your house.

Altogether, Tado claims the smart thermostat can shed 31 percent off your energy bill.

“The smart heating control sector remains the beating heart of the smart home. Smart thermostats are currently the only technology within the smart home that generates measurable value of savings and comfort”, said Christian Deilmann, CEO and co-founder of Tado.

Tado offers started kits

For people that want to try the smart home experience but not spend hundreds on the devices, Tado offers two starter kits at between $ 6.65-$ 3.20 per month. The thermostat starter kit include the new smart thermostat and an internet bridge, which costs $ 265 outright, while the radiator start kit includes two smart radiator thermostats and a bridge for £180 ($ 239) outright.

Additional smart radiator thermostats (after the first two) will cost $ 80 each.

Tado has made a mark in the European market and claims to be a leader in several markets, grabbing $ 53 million in venture capital funding since its 2011 launch. That said, it trails Nest in the international market and is seeing heavy competition from British Gas’ Hive.
