Mark Zuckerberg’s $ 19 billion acquisition has yielded one positive result, the app has now been downloaded and used by more than 900 million monthly active users.

The numbers were revealed by WhatsApp CEO, co-founder, and Facebook board member Jan Koum.

WhatsApp surpassed the 800 million actives number in April 2015 after taking just three months to skyrocket from 700 million to 800 million active users.

At this point, WhatsApp only charges a $ 1 per year fee to users with the first year at no charge. There has been no real talk of a monetization effort beyond that point.

Mark Zuckerberg has said in the past that there are “clear ways” to monetize WhatsApp, although he didn’t go into any detail about those monetization efforts.

For now Facebook is still attempting to create a larger user base for WhatsApp in the United States, where it has struggled to gain the same pace as other developing and foreign countries.
