The 96th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade kicks off today, Thursday, November 24, 2022. The parade route runs from W. 77th Street and Central Park West on Manhattan’s Upper West Side to Macy’s Herald Square on W. 34th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.
Lea Michele and the cast of Broadway’s Funny Girl kick off this year’s parade with an opening number from their musical. Casts of other Broadway shows are also performing, including The Lion King, celebrating its 25th year on Broadway. The parade features performances by Jordin Sparks, Joss Stone, Blanco Brown, Fitz and the Tantrums, Big Time Rush, Dionne Warwick, Gloria Estefan, Paula Abdul, Ziggy Marley, Ballet Hispánico, and many others, with the Radio City Rockettes traditionally closing out the festivities.
Four giant balloons are making their parade debut: Stuart, the one-eyed Minion from Despicable Me 2; Bluey, from the hit animated series of the same name; a brand-new Greg (plus cheese!) from Diary of a Wimpy Kid fame; and a new Sinclair’s Dino with a piggybacking baby Apatosaurus. And among this year’s notable new floats are Geoffrey’s Dazzling Dance Party from Toys “R” Us, Nickelodeon’s Baby Shark with an underwater seascape, and Supersized Slumber featuring a giant walking bed from the Netflix movie Slumberland.
