With summertime approaching and the ability to go back to enjoying the lake, beach, and parks, it’s time to get out the coolers to take food and drinks along for the day. I’ve dragged all types of coolers with me for years and only recently noticed that some now come with wheels — including YETI. I’ve used the YETI brand for their stay-cold drink containers.

I recently purchased the YETI Tundra Haul Wheeled Cooler to see how it worked for all of our on-the-go needs. Here’s my review.

About the Wheeled Cooler

This wheeled cooler from YETI is a beast in terms of its size and durability. Even with nothing in it, the cooler weighs nearly 40 pounds! It will hold about 55 pounds of ice and 45 cans of beer. To hold that much, the cooler has to be strong yet versatile to easily move around.

The cooler comes in a wide range of colors. These include white, desert tan, ice blue, charcoal, navy blue, seafoam, river green, and coral.

Unique Features

The Tundra Haul uses YETI’s trademarked Fatwall Design. The cooler has extra thick walls that YETI says offers up to two inches of insulation to keep everything inside as cold as possible for as long as possible.

The cooler is also rotomolded, which means it is made as one single complete body versus seams that can lead to structural stress and then potential leakage. Another feature is its hinge system, which the company guarantees won’t break, along with durable handles for when you have to lift it into and out of a vehicle.

Pros and Cons

There are many pros when it comes to this incredible cooler on wheels. Besides its durability, storage capacity, and color choices, it can actually keep ice frozen for up to three or four days. You would be lucky to have ice still frozen on the same day with the typical ice chest. Plus, when I tried blocks of ice, they were still more than half frozen seven days after putting them in the cooler.

You can also customize your YETI cooler with a collegiate or MLB logo. This is an additional fee but something that sets your cooler apart from all the others at the campgrounds or beach.

The cons are that there is stiff competition from other manufacturers with similar products where the ice can last up to 10 days. Others may not last as long in terms of freezing capability but they are significantly cheaper. However, I haven’t tested these other coolers so I’m not sure if they are as durable.

Another con is that this particular model of cooler is not compatible with YETI’s dry goods basket or divider.

Where to Buy

Priced at $ 399.99, you can buy the YETI Tundra Haul Wheeled Cooler from the company’s website as well as other retailers like Amazon. Numerous sporting goods and camping retailers also carry this rugged cooler on wheels.

Overall Thoughts

Although it is expensive for wheeled coolers — there are still more expensive ones. The YETI is backed by high-quality materials and a solid reputation for developing long-lasting products. With such durability, I know this cooler will last for years, saving me from buying a new one every summer.
