YouTube Tests Suggested Hashtags For Shorts Creators
In an attempt to help creators receive more views, YouTube has begun running a new experiment that will suggest relevant hashtags that creators can add to their Shorts during the uploading process.
“If you’re a creator in the experiment, you’ll see suggested hashtags appear in the upload flow on mobile,” YouTube clarified in a recent blog post.
The suggested hashtags will be custom to creators’ channels and will be based primarily on the content creators have previously uploaded. This may prove helpful for creators who upload content that follows a similar theme, but due to its lack of AI-generation, varying content may be harder to categorize with suggested hashtags.
Still, suggested hashtags may be more specific than generic tags (like #Shorts), which may cause creators’ clips to be lost in the platform’s mix of millions of uploads.
These new recommendations may also help YouTube’s algorithms highlight more relevant content to more users.
According to YouTube, a small number of Shorts creators in the U.S. will be included in the initial experiment, which will run on both iOS and Android devices.
