YouTube’s New Trending Tab shows movies As They Go Viral

Google says movies are curated based on comments, views, novelty and exterior references.

As a part of its #YouTubeRewind 2015 announcement, the web page rolled out a new “trending tab” that screens the most recent viral movies.

“This new tab in your YouTube app gives you the highest trending videos immediately to your Android, iOS and personal computer software,” says YouTube on its weblog, “See ’em as they take off and before they give the impression of being in YouTube Rewind 2016.”

A Google spokesperson instructed VentureBeat the movies will not be curated based on a viewer’s watch habits but by the use of an algorithm that tracks comments, views, novelty and external references, and that the movies listed within the tab fluctuate from u . s . a . to united states.

VentureBeat also reported that movies rated for mature audiences are excluded from the trending tab.
